While trying to uncover the Joker's secrets, Terry McGinnis, the new Batman, discovers the greatest mystery in the career of the original Batman - the true story of the night Batman fought the Joker for the last time. Though when Bruce Wayne is almost killed in one of the Joker's new attacks, it's up to Batman Beyond to avenge his mentor and put the Joker to rest forever. In latter-21st-century Gotham City, The Jokerz, a street gang enamored of the city's infamous Clown Prince Of Crime, is breaking into a high-tech engineering plant to steal a powerful generator, a crime stopped by the new Batman (Terry McGuiness) and which puzzles Terry and his mentor, the elderly original Batman Bruce Wayne. The reason for this and other "geek junk" thefts is a mystery even to The Jokerz gang, who are now working for someone claiming to be the original Joker himself. When he makes an appearence at a charity function attended by Bruce Wayne (cover to steal another generator), the Joker taunts Wayne, and later sends his minions to attack Terry McGuiness while he attacks the Batcave. But the original Joker died forty years earlier, and why does this new Joker want high-tech items? When a shaken Barbara Gordon explains the fate of the original Joker, Terry begins to piece the twin mysteries together, culimating in a confrontation with the Joker that literally threatens the very existence of Gotham City. Right now I'm watching for the very first time the series Batman Beyond well actually I have just finished watching the disc 1 of Season 1. I'm writing this to get you more or less in the context of this movie. It is like a big special episode in which we have a story that is about the past and how this past is returning to Gotham. If you are planning to watch this movie and you haven't watch anything of the series Batman Beyond I do recommend to watch at least the very first episodes of the series obviously to know about the story of Bruce and Terry. Anyway, this movie is a new adventure for our new Dark Knight but not an adventure that will "affect" the way of the story of the series since it is an adventure that must and eventually will end within 77 minutes. But it does features a relevant episode in the Bruce and Terry relation, the confirmation that Terry can and must be the new Batman but the questions about that also began during the movie. When the Joker appears after so many years in Gotham we can understand why Bruce feels worry about Terry, after all Bruce knows how the Joker works and how the Joker laughs. Eventually Terry will need to be Batman again and he will know more about the Joker and about that mysterious final battle with Bruce as Batman. Barbara Gordon will tell him the story, a story that is dark and that really works for the movie. Basically is the story of how Bruce almost loses a friend who was there for him. Now Terry understands Bruce, now Terry knows more about the Joker, knows that the Joker died and knows more about Robin. But there is when that relevant episode of the Terry and Bruce relation happens since Terry is not like Robin, he is a different Batman, a Batman without the Joker.<br/><br/>Great fun, great stuff with the Joker, this is a near great animated Batman movie. After being a little disappointed with the Batman and Superman movie I just loved Mask of the Phantasm and these Batman Beyond stuff has their own merits that I'm really enjoying. Recommended! It's not surprising that this film exceeds the expectations. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm know the bat. With the exception of what happened to Barbara Gordon in the comics, they are the only ones who have shown that Batman can be done outside of the comics. Batman Beyond was a curiosity at first, who can do it besides Bruce Wayne? The Dark Knight Returns series by Frank Miller was the most believable way into the future…. until Terry McGinnis. The only disappointing part of the movie was the absence of Max, the only other one who knows who Batman is outside of the Family. The only thing we need is more of these movies.
